The Nordics have a great reputation when it comes to the ethical, sustainable production of goods.
With consumers’ awareness of ethical and ecological issues increasing, particularly in high-end products, Amcham is proud to be working with the Nordic brands that are breaking into this emerging market.
At this year’s New York Fashion Week, Amcham had the pleasure of helping Finnish fashion brands Marita Huurinainen and Minna Hepburn strut their stuff in New York.
“The event was a chance for us to get a feeling of the American market” says Ms. Huurinainen, who designs fur and leather clothing made solely from the skins and furs of animals that have lived in the wilderness. Each hide is marked and can be traced back to its origins.
“We want to be able to offer our WILD concept to this audience. WILD represents a style that is international, yet still very Finnish. It’s fur with a good conscience.”
Hepburn’s internationally acclaimed bridal line and evening dresses as well as children’s clothing are made with sustainable, organic, and locally-produced textiles, produced with zero waste.
The fashion show was held as part of a UN sustainability reception at the residence of the Finnish Ambassador to the UN, and gathered representatives of the UN Sustainable Development Goals as well as fashion industry players and media.
