The British Embassy Helsinki and Amcham Finland are organizing an intimate breakfast seminar on Brexit and Finnish business at to The British Ambassador’s Residence with Philip Rycroft, Permanent Secretary to the Department for Exiting the European Union and Tom Dodd, HM Ambassador to Finland.


Philip Rycroft is the Department for Exiting the European Union’s most senior official and is well placed to discuss the latest UK government thinking on Brexit and positions on issues such as the implementation period. He is also eager to hear Finnish perspectives. Philip Rycroft has previously worked as a Director General in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, and has held roles in business, the Scottish government and in Brussels.

Department for Exiting the European Union


Philip Rycroft was appointed as Permanent Secretary at the Department for Exiting the European Union in October 2017. As Permanent Secretary, he will have responsibility for supporting the department in the negotiations to leave the EU and establishing the future relationship between the UK and the EU.

Before taking up this role, he was Second Permanent Secretary at DExEU.

Philip was appointed Second Permanent Secretary, Head of UK Governance Group in the Cabinet Office in June 2015, with responsibility for constitutional and devolution issues, and retains this role.


Tom Dodd

Ambassador Designate

Tom Dodd arrived in Finland as Ambassador designate in January 2018.  His career has spanned roles in the Cabinet Office, FCO and Home Office and House of Commons, principally in inter-agency co-ordination, security and analysis. His previous postings include Kabul (as Chargé and Deputy Ambassador) and Basra (Deputy Consul General). Tom has degrees in history and in international relations.
