Helsinki Uusimaa Region
Uusimaa Regional Council is a joint regional authority for Helsinki-Uusimaa Region. It operates according to the principles of local self-government. Therefore its members are the municipalities in the region, from which it receives its funding. Like all 18 regional councils in Finland, it is mandated in law.
The tasks of Uusimaa Regional Council include regional and land-use planning and the promotion of local and regional interests in general. The Council articulates common regional needs, long term development goals and conditions for sustainable development.
To support sustained wellbeing and economic growth in Uusimaa the Council works in close cooperation with member municipalities, the govenrment, the business sector, universities, and research institutions, as well as with civic organizations.
International cooperation is increasingly important for Uusimaa, which is why the Council develops and maintains a network of international partners. The Council also has a representative office in Brussels and in St. Petersburg.
