Mary Jo Jacobi is an internationally renowned expert in corporate communications, branding, reputation and crisis management, with a career ranging from the White House to Wall Street and Westminster.
She holds the rare distinction of being appointed to office by U.S. Presidents George H. W. Bush and Ronald Reagan, U.K. Prime Ministers David Cameron and Theresa May, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
She’s navigated a variety of corporate crises since the 1980s, involving fraud, environmental disaster, economic trouble and loss of human life. Alongside her strategic business advisory practice, Mary Jo also serves on multiple corporate boards and has been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford.

Mary Jo is an internationally-renowned expert in reputation, brand and crisis management and a trusted advisor on the complex dynamics of corporate, economic and governmental relationships. Her expertise was honed among the power brokers of Washington and Westminster and in the C suites of a number of the world’s largest corporations.
She currently leads a successful consulting practice supporting clients mainly in the Middle East and Asia. She is a non-executive director of Mulvaney Capital Management and The Weir Group plc where she leads employee engagement on behalf of the Board.
A former Visiting Fellow of the University of Oxford, Maary Jo is a member of the International Advisory Board of Oxford’s Rothermere American Institute and of the International Advisory Board of Spain’s IE University. In addition, she is an executive mentor with the Gerson Lehrman Group and Criticaleye and she is a frequent speaker and broadcast commentator.
In her prior corporate roles Mary Jo devised award-winning global brand strategies for Lehman Brothers and the HSBC Group, originating the often-copied deployment of airport jetties to deliver brand and thought leadership messaging. She played a pivotal role in three historic corporate crises: at BP in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy; at Royal Dutch Shell following miscategorization of its proved oil and gas reserves; and at Drexel Burnham Lambert through the four-year securities fraud investigation of the Firm.
Mary Jo has been appointed to office by two American presidents (George H W Bush as Assistant US Secretary of Commerce and Ronald Reagan as Special Assistant to the President and a member of his Advisory Committee on Trade Negotiations); a reigning monarch (as one of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Civil Service Commissioners); and two British prime ministers (David Cameron and Theresa May to the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments).
She has served on the boards of Tate & Lyle plc and Drexel Burnham Lambert; chaired the External Advisory Board of the UK’s Forensic Science Service; was a member of South Korean-owned Dana Petroleum’s advisory board; and was the first woman to chair a major professional sports organization, the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).
A dual US-UK national, Mary Jo lives in suburban Washington, DC, with her husband, Patrick Jephson, the former private secretary/chief of staff to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
